New Explorations began as a series of campus seminars at the University of Toronto and later took the form of a private Facebook Group. In 2020 it graduated into the full-fledged New Explorations Journal, a revival of the original academic journal Explorations: Studies in Culture and Communication created in 1953 by Marshall McLuhan and Ted Carpenter.
There had been strong intimations in the 1950s in articles in Explorations and from the 1960s in his books that [McLuhan’s] work would come to be regarded as paleo-Barthesian, paleo-Derridean, paleo-Lyotardian, and paleo-Baudrillardian.

As an extension of the journal, this New Explorations Weblog brings together contributors and the community in joint exploration.
